I wanted to show my character in a cool way for this project which is made of images, objects, and design. The character's story, feelings, and development were to be revealed through creative elements. The aim was to present the character and make him come to life.
The character I created is James Johnson, a retired firefighter who lost his leg during 9/11. He was forced to retire after the incident and fell into a deep depression for quite a while. His therapists eventually convinced him to start volunteering at an animal shelter. Gradually, he was able to find happiness and calmness through his work with animals, and now he is a full-time employee there.
The visuals I made for my character were dog toys, treats, and pictures of dogs. Each part of my display was telling his story the hard times he went through to his healing by helping the animals. We even did a little 30 sec video of audio of him walking into the shelter. We brought in an image of james and different clothes for each ocassion and you had to dress him up for each senerio.
In the process of making James, I used things from a lesson on representation that spoke of stereotypes and symbols. As a group, we collaborated in merging design, story, and feelings. Everyone participated in the selection of visuals and the arrangement of space. I am convinced that our final output was pretty good because it delivered a good story without the need for much talkin and our visuals did all the communicating.
