three film openings

THE BATMAN (superhero mystery)

The opening scene shows the Riddler this murderer whos looking at a victim. The scene starts with the antagonist instead of the protagonist, this helps introduce the sense of mystery. You immediately get nervous and drawn in because of this. You wanna know who the person is and why they are spying. The music is calm and scary. You get uncomfortable. At first, you hear quiet noises and heavy breathing. The movie turns to Batman battling gangsters in the rain following the murder scene. There is also a VO of batman sort of introducing the city and his job to the viewers with a deep mysterious voice. It shows that gootham is dangerous dark, and serious. From the beginning, it's obvious that this movie blends mystery with hero type action.

KNIVES OUT (murder mystery)

This opening scene takes place in an old home owned by a man named Harlan. Dogs running, preparing breakfast, and rooms full of stuff are examples of little stuff going on that make stuff seem normal. This gives you a feeling that something strange is going to happen. You get a sense of old mystery and kind of classical stories by the soundtrack. A body is found in a usual murderous way. This immediately lets you know that the movie will be about solving a murder. You start to make who, why, and how questions.

ACE VENTURA (comedy mystery)

Ace Ventura starts in a way that feels stupid and dumb at first. You laugh when you see funny sounds and behaviors. There is still a bit of uncertainty at the opening. The main problem is that Ace has to find a lost animal or clue. His wild approach shows that this will be fun rather than scary. You can probably expect funny twists rather than a serious detective story cuz of the jokes and the music and Jim Carreys funny personality. You know youre gonna laugh while you try to solve the puzzle.

Final thoughts
I chose these movies because they're all different types of mysteries. Comedy, heroes, and murder. I wanted to show how different types of genres can still blend and implement that mystery element too. For example, Ace Ventura uses funny jokes and Jim Carrey's fun personality to implement that comedy side, but the script and plot use that mystery. What I really like about mystery is how it interacts with the audience so much. These movies tap into Clay Shirky's Active Media Consumer Theory, which states that audiences expect to directly interact with media, and they wish to 'speak back' to content creators and become part of the production process. A good example is Batman and all over the movie the Riddler leaves these riddles and the audiences try to find them. They're interacting with the movie.
